How to get indexed by major search engines

Each of the major search engines has a form you can fill out to add your url in order for their search engine to spider your site.

What is a spider?  It is the search engine process that grabs content from your site and (hopefully) is shown in their search engine. If you are lucky your site is spidered often looking for content updates. Spiders LOVE updated content.

But using these forms is not the way to go. Why? Well think about it. There are millions of sites looking to get into the search engine. Can you imagine how many sites are trying to get into the search engines let alone the top 10 for a search term? How many websites do you think are submitted daily? I would imaging many thousands. How long do you think it will take to get to yours? It is safe to say anywhere from four to six weeks. Are you willing to wait that amount of time to be spidered? This means it will be weeks before they even find you and then who knows how long to actually get into the engine itself. That takes even longer! You need an advantage. You need to get links on sites already indexed by the search engine. And preferably, one way incoming text links.

Getting links on related sites is one of the keys to getting indexed quickly. Why? The search engine spiders go to some sites daily and look for fresh content. If your link is on there, guess what? It will get spidered as well. Unless you want to wait for the search engine spider to get around to you.

It is very important to be careful getting links to your site. Search engines do not seem to like reciprocal links. Check out the other RankWhere.com article titled Exchanging Links Theory. It is not clear cut proof but the consesus is one way inbound links are best. But when you are starting with no links, reciprocal are the way to go. This holds true unless you can find a way to purchase some incoming one way text links. All I can say is I do not recommend this. The search engines are smart. They know who is selling links for pagerank or search engine position. Do not underestimate that these search engines do not know what is going on. They know. They have the best engineers coding, researching, evaluating and reviewing sites. They have some of the most advanced and best technology. Again, do not underestimate them.
